About Medog Museum
A 2024 account by Zhaoqing University, whose thirteenth aid-Tibet teaching service team visited the museum, records that it was built in 2012 by the sixth batch of the Fujian province aid-Tibet work team and is one of the county's landmark buildings. The Motuo county government's attractions listing adds that the building itself carries a strong Monba and Lhoba character. A Motuo culture and tourism feature carried by the Nyingchi municipal tourism development bureau in 2024 calls Lianhuage the landmark of the county town and says the top floor gives a view over the whole of the county town and the 雅江, the Yarlung Zangbo.
Both the county listing and the university account state that the museum has six exhibition zones, and both then name five subjects: 地理位置 (geography), 狩猎 (hunting), 民俗文化 (folk culture), 生产生活及交通 (production, daily life and transport) and 服饰及手工艺品 (dress and handicrafts). Neither page reconciles the count with the list, and that is stated here rather than smoothed over. What the zones cover is agreed: a general account of the county, and the customs and scenes of daily life of the Monba and Lhoba peoples. The university account describes the methods used — combined text and images, architectural models and physical exhibits — and the culture and tourism feature adds that the exhibits run to many kinds, presented through historical objects and historical photographs among other means. No cited source gives the collection's size or names an individual object in it.
The museum's subject matter is bound up with the county's isolation. Motuo, as the university account puts it, was once the only county in the country without a road — an island on the plateau — and later a county lifted out of poverty as road building gradually opened it.
