About Huanglongtan Pools
The pools are arranged in an upper, middle and lower series, backed by Luofeng Mountain to the west and lined with willow trees along their banks; the site is counted among the traditional 'Eight Scenes of Heyang' as 'Luofeng Yese', the wild scenery of Luo Peak, and forms part of the provincial-level Huanglongtan Scenic Area. In February 2025 the Huanglongtan Tourism Scenic Area was confirmed as a national AAA-grade scenic area.
On Luofeng Mountain above the pools stands Zhaoxia Temple, built in the tenth year of the Ming dynasty's Chenghua reign. It originally comprised four halls, of which only the Xiaqing Palace survives; local tradition attributes the temple's founding to a commemoration of the monk Zantuoqiduo, said to have meditated at Shibaoshan for ten years during the Nanzhao kingdom's Baohe era before building a bridge of cloud between the eastern and western peaks.
