About Jiuxiang Scenic Area
The county government counts more than a hundred caves here, large and small, and lists the site as a national AAAA-grade scenic area, calling it the land of karst caves. Above ground the area is thickly wooded and cut by gorges; below ground the caverns open to the sky in places, carry water and are crossed by bridges, with stalactites of varied form lit inside them.
Six features are singled out by the county. There are tiers of terraced pools of clear water; a twin waterfall inside the cave with a drop of more than 30 metres; a natural bridge thrown across a cliff more than 200 metres high; the hall-like Xiongshi cavern, or Lion Hall; the gorge called Jinghunxia, with walls more than 80 metres high; and Yincuixia, which the county calls the finest secluded gorge in central Yunnan.
