About Laojun Mountain Liming Danxia Landform
Laojun Mountain National Park carries three designations — a component of the Three Parallel Rivers World Natural Heritage Site, a national-level scenic area, and a national geopark — across a total area of 1,324 sq km. A 2024 notice about the Liming scenic area lists four bodies in its signature block: the Lijiang Laojun Mountain National Park Administration, the Three Parallel Rivers World Natural Heritage Lijiang Laojun Mountain Conservation Administration, the Yunnan Lijiang Laojun Mountain National Geopark Administration, and the Liming Lisu Township government of Yulong Naxi Autonomous County. Within it, the Liming danxia area covers more than 250 sq km and is described by People's Daily Online's Yunnan channel as the country's largest and most fully developed danxia landform group.
Because the danxia formations sit close together across a compact area, the changing light produces what is locally described as three sunrises and three sunsets appearing to occur in a single day, giving Liming township its nickname 'hometown of the sun'. The scenic area was rated a national AAAA (4A) tourist attraction by the then National Tourism Administration in 2015.
