Longling War of Resistance Memorial Hall 龙陵抗战纪念馆

Longling Kangzhan Jinianguan

The Longling War of Resistance Museum stands in Longling County, Baoshan, its two-storey main building surrounded by a large relief wall, a bunker of the invading Japanese army, war sculptures and memorial features across a site of 5,190.98 square metres. It documents the Longling and Songshan campaigns of 1944: the Chinese Expeditionary Force forced a crossing of the Nujiang River on 4 June and, after three months and three days of fighting, annihilated the Japanese garrison at Songshan, in Longling county, by 7 September, at a cost Yunnan Daily gives as 7,000 Expeditionary Force dead, reopening the Yunnan-Burma corridor.

About Longling War of Resistance Memorial Hall

The museum's main building covers 486 square metres over two floors: the ground floor hosts rotating short-term themed exhibitions, and the upper floor holds the permanent display on the Longling and Songshan campaigns and wartime relics. After a September 2015 renovation the museum's content grew richer, combining text, photographs, artefacts, models and audio-visual material under the exhibition title 'Righteousness Between Heaven and Earth, a Monument of Flesh and Blood', built around the tense standoff between Chinese and Japanese forces and divided into a Japanese-occupied zone, covering the devastation under occupation and the fortifications and equipment of the Songshan garrison, and a Chinese counteroffensive zone, covering the Expeditionary Force's weapons, daily life, commanders and Longling's three major campaigns; the museum also holds material on the Longlu Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force, American military equipment and the Yunnan-Burma road.

The Songshan campaign it documents came near the end of the War of Resistance, when the Expeditionary Force fought with extreme brutality to destroy the Japanese garrison dug in at Songshan, reopening the Yunnan-Burma corridor and beginning China's strategic counteroffensive against Japan; Longling county still holds extensive remains of the Songshan battle site, which the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office designated Yunnan's fourth nationally recognised cross-strait exchange base in 2018, after Tengchong's Guoshang Cemetery, the former Southwest Associated University site in Kunming, and the Yunnan Army Military Academy.
