About Lushi Ancient Town
Lushi historically stood on the required route from Fengqing toward Weishan, Xiaguan and Kunming, and served as a post station on the Ming-Qing era trade route connecting China with Southeast Asia. The town was listed a provincial historic-and-cultural town in 2006, named one of 210 national distinctive towns in 2012, and its section of the Tea-Horse Road became a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2013; in 2014 its core village, Guji, became one of 38 traditional villages in Yunnan receiving central-government financial support.
Ladder Street (楼梯街), the town's ancient post road, is 266 m long and 4 m wide with 66 stone steps; shops line both sides following the slope, backed by courtyard houses. Fengqing County has invested in restoring the town's heritage, building the Yunda Academy (combining tourism, book collection and Tea-Horse Road research) and restoring the historic Aluosi Yamen, the former county office.
