About Moli Tropical Rainforest
'Moli' is Dai for 'beautiful waterfall'; the site is also called 'Zhaduo', from a legend that the Buddha once fasted and bathed by a hot spring here and left a large footprint, commemorated in the Pali-derived name. The scenic area covers 7 square kilometres with forest cover exceeding 96 percent, combining original tropical valley-rainforest vegetation with waterfalls, hot springs, streams and unusual rock formations; it records more than 1,500 wild plant species and 479 species of flowers and spice plants, including more than ten nationally protected rare species.
At the end of the gorge, the Zhaduo waterfall drops from a 60-metre cliff. The scenic area is a national AAAA-grade tourist site, and at its centre stands a large ornamental waterwheel; peacocks roam within the grounds.
