About Dongji Islands
On Dongfushan, Dashuwan's houses are mostly one or two storeys high, built from stone or a combination of stone and timber. Fishing families used stone to withstand typhoons, giving the settlement a distinctive network of stone houses, walls and paths. Later conservation and reuse brought vacant buildings back into use and repaired parts of the village routes and waterfront.
Miaozihu has a different settlement focus around its landing and streets. Daodou Street brings together small businesses and community spaces, connecting the inhabited island's everyday life with its visitor economy. The group therefore offers several island settlements, each with its own setting and built character.
