About Xianshan Lake
The area lies in the upper Taihu drainage and combines natural wetlands with artificial lake, reservoir and pond habitats. Its character changes between open water, narrow branching channels and dense reed margins. Willows growing in the water give parts of the lake a flooded-woodland appearance, while the wetlands provide habitat for seasonal migratory birds.
The hill-and-lake setting includes Xianshan Tower on the skyline and a suspension bridge linking two hills. These constructed landmarks belong to the developed visitor landscape around a wetland that also serves water-supply, habitat and ecological-education functions.
What to look for
- Willow groves rising from the water and branching channels edged with reeds.
