About Yanguan Ancient City and Tide-Watching Park
Along the river, the fish-scale stone seawall, Ming-period Zhan’ao Pagoda and iron bulls give tide watching a cultural setting. Nearby Haishen Temple, also called Miaogong, embodies prayers for calm tides and secure embankments. The Tiaotang Culture Museum beside the park square explains seawall construction and the responsibilities of the officials who supervised it.
In the town, Chen Ge Lao’s Residence and Zheng Xiaocang’s former home stand among the historic streets. These older sites coexist with the redeveloped Yanguan Ancient Town–Chaole Zhicheng attraction, which opened to visitors in 2024. The town and the riverfront park offer related but distinct perspectives: domestic life and urban heritage inland, and the history of defending the coast beside the water.
