Where to stay

The best base depends on your route, arrival point and the time available.

Build your shortlist around a base

Mark the places you plan to visit, then choose a neighbourhood with useful transport connections. Compare the journey from your actual arrival station or airport. A broad city-centre label is less useful than a specific street and metro station.

Match the stay to the route

A city hotel can work for several nearby sights. A mountain or rural stop may need a different overnight base. Before changing hotels, weigh the benefit against packing, luggage storage and the next transfer. Do not assume two places in the same province share a convenient base.

Check the booking details

Confirm the property’s accepted check-in documents, room occupancy, reception hours, cancellation policy and exact address. For an apartment or guesthouse, check how keys and late arrivals are handled. Keep the Chinese address and provider contact available offline.
