Nanxi River Wheat Flatbread 楠溪江麦饼
Nanxi River Wheat Flatbread is featured among the local specialties of Zhejiang.

Nanxi River Wheat Flatbread (楠溪江麦饼) belongs to the maibing tradition of Yongjia (永嘉), Wenzhou (温州). A China News Service (中国新闻网) report describes stuffed breads with a browned exterior and a soft interior, including a riverside shop pairing them with coffee.
Pan-frying followed by baking
The reported preparation combines wheat flour, egg and vegetable oil into dough. It is shaped around salted vegetables, fresh meat and shrimp, rolled flat, pan-fried until golden on both sides, then finished in an oven. Yongjia Maibing Association (永嘉县麦饼协会) chair Chen Zhong (陈忠) explains that extended kneading gives the wrapper its chew, and favours front-leg pork for the filling.
A riverside shop’s variation
At Huakai Maibing House (花开麦饼屋) beside the Nanxi River, founder Chen Xianmin (陈宪敏) introduced a bread-and-coffee pairing in 2021. The report also describes smaller individual breads and newer seaweed and abalone flavours within Yongjia’s wider maibing trade.
