Gongliao Abalone Congee 贡寮鲍鱼粥
Gongliao Abalone Congee is featured among the local specialties of Taiwan.

Gongliao Abalone Congee (贡寮鲍鱼粥) is rice congee cooked with Gongliao abalone (贡寮鲍), the shellfish farmed in Gongliao District (贡寮区), New Taipei (新北). The Gongliao District Fishermen's Association (贡寮区渔会) sells it as jiukong congee (九孔粥), and NOWnews describes that version as made by cooking stock, Gongliao abalone and white rice together.
Ingredients
The New Taipei City Government uses Gongliao abalone as a collective name for the jiukong (九孔, a small abalone) and black-disc abalone (黑盘鲍) farmed naturally in the Gongliao area. The city says they are raised in clean seawater with room to move, fed on natural algae rather than artificial feed, and have a fresh, springy texture. The city government set up the Gongliao abalone brand in 2014 and helps farmers obtain production-history and traceability certification.
How it is eaten
The fishermen's association sells jiukong congee as a heat-and-eat product alongside canned braised pearl abalone, grilled abalone and cooking kits; the city notes that these processed foods keep at room temperature. NOWnews suggests warming the congee briefly and scattering chopped spring onion and pepper over it, and describes the result as a sweet, fresh rice congee with crisp, springy pieces of abalone that is light and warming.
