Guoxing Hakka Ground Tea (国姓客家擂茶) is a warm, ground tea-and-grain drink associated with Guoxing (國姓), Nantou (南投). The National Museum of Taiwan Literature (國立臺灣文學館) links it with writer Pan Qiao (潘樵)'s account of tasting the drink during a local interview.

Grinding tea, seeds and grains

The museum describes tea leaves, sesame, peanuts and brown rice being placed in a grinding bowl. A grinding stick reduces the ingredients to fine particles, and hot water is added and stirred through the mixture to make the drink.

A flavour that brought back memories

In Taste-Bud Memories (味蕾的記憶), collected in his 2019 book, Pan Qiao recalls that he had previously been unfamiliar with ground tea. Tasting the warm drink in Guoxing reminded him of village elders serving tea to guests during his childhood, bringing older memories of Hakka village life back to mind.
