Chaozhou Hot and Cold Shaved Ice (潮州冷热冰) is associated with Chaozhou (潮州), Pingtung (屏東). At A Lun Ice Shop (阿倫冰店), the dessert features tangyuan (湯圓) rice balls and sweet toppings prepared by hand.

The shop's sweet components

The township's account lists rice balls, red beans, taro and sugar syrup among ingredients the family prepares and cooks itself. Peanuts require a particularly time-consuming process of removing their skins and draining away water.

Keeping the hot and cold mouthfuls

The shop recommends leaving the dessert unstirred, eating from the bottom upward and taking the rice balls first. It preserves the flavour established by the previous generation: manager Wu Helun (吳和倫) took over his mother's work, and the township dates the shop's establishment to 1965.
