About Duliu Canal Town
Its waterside streets preserve the story of goods moving between riverboats, local workshops and the railway. The old Duliu water-supply station once served steam trains on the Jinpu Railway, while the wooden canal bridge dates from 1936. The town's vinegar-making tradition and the Duliu Impression Museum add a domestic and commercial side to this transport history.
According to the Jinghai county gazetteer, Duliu lies at the point where several river branches converge and was founded during the Song-Liao confrontation; because the Ziya, Daqing and South Canal rivers merge into a single stream here, the settlement was named Duliu, meaning 'solitary stream'. Song-dynasty forts, Duliudong and Duliubei (独流东寨, 独流北寨), once stood here, and by the Ming Yongle era (1404) large-scale land reclamation had turned the area into a market town. The town of Duliu was formally established in 1923, within Jinghai County's fifth district.

Getting to Duliu Canal Town
Head for Duliu Old Town in northern Jinghai District, around the canal confluence. Use 独流古镇 or 独流给水所 for a more useful local drop-off than a general Jinghai city pin.
