About Pingjin Campaign Memorial Museum

Its layout combines a memorial square, chronological exhibition halls and the Junwei Garden's retired military equipment. The high, bayonet-shaped monument establishes the ceremonial setting, while campaign displays and objects provide historical detail. Separate the original campaign story from the later aircraft, naval and missile equipment displayed outdoors; these represent broader military history rather than a single battlefield collection.

Preparations for a memorial to the campaign began in 1969, with an early plan to build it north of Shuishang Park (水上公园); in 1970 that land was instead allocated to a martyrs' cemetery, and in 1981 it was returned to the park after proposals from municipal deputies. In 1994 the Communist Party's Politburo Standing Committee decided to build the museum in Tianjin; preparation began in 1995, with a groundbreaking ceremony on 29 November 1995 beside the Ziya River, and the museum opened on 23 July 1997.

It is a national first-class museum (国家一级博物馆), with its name inscribed by Nie Rongzhen (聂荣臻); the site covers 47,000 square metres, with 12,800 square metres of floor space. Junwei Garden (军威园) displays retired People's Liberation Army equipment, including J-6 fighter jets (歼-6), Type 62C-class patrol boats (62丙型护卫艇) and HQ-61 missiles (红旗-61导弹).
