About Kongshan White Cloud Cave
Its interior is organised into five named halls, including Human World, Heaven, Maze, Underworld and Dragon Palace. Heaven is the largest hall in the documented layout, while the changing names provide an easy way to follow the visitor sequence through contrasting underground spaces. Follow the managed cave route and lighting rather than exploring side passages or assuming every chamber is independently accessible.
The cave lies on Baiyun Mountain (白云山) in Lincheng County (临城县), part of Xingtai in Hebei. This natural karst cave formed 500 million years ago, during the Cambrian period. The mountain produces a roaring sound when winds arrive, giving it the alternative name Kongshan (空山), also written Kongshan (崆山); the cave's location on this mountain accounts for its combined name, Kongshan White Cloud Cave. In 2014 it was designated a national AAAA-level scenic area (国家AAAA级景区). One of its five halls, Tiantang (天堂), measures 120 metres in length.
