About Iron Lion of Cangzhou
A basin-like lotus throne sits on its back, linking it to a former Buddhist setting. Damage, support work and later sheltering are also visible parts of its long conservation history. Visit the original in the old-city heritage park; the much larger modern lion in Shicheng Park is a separate replica.
What to look for
- The lotus-shaped throne on the lion's back and the powerful surviving outline of the body.
- Casting seams, damaged areas and conservation supports, which explain both its manufacture and its vulnerability.
Location & getting there
Getting to Iron Lion of Cangzhou
Use Cangzhou Iron Lion and Old City Heritage Park as the destination for the original sculpture southeast of modern Cangzhou.
- Do not substitute Shicheng Park: its lion is the modern replica, not this tenth-century object.
