About Jinjiangshan Park
The main gate provides a formal approach, while Jinjiang Pavilion and the higher Shuguang Pavilion give distinct viewpoints within the hill park. The interest lies in the change from urban streets to wooded slopes and elevated city views. Select a route that suits your willingness to climb; the two pavilion areas need not be treated as an obligatory circuit for every visitor.
The park was built in 1905 as Zhenjiangshan Park; Japanese Buddhist monks built the Linji Temple (临济寺) on the hill, followed by a Shinto shrine and a war memorial. The shrine's great gate, erected in 1924 and rebuilt in concrete in 1935, later became the park's main gate, replaced in 1959 by the archway still used today. The park was renamed Jinjiangshan Park in 1965, and its pavilion, first built in 1932 as the Dongtian Pavilion (东天阁), was renamed several times before becoming today's Jinjiang Pavilion (锦江亭).
The park lies on the south side of Jinjiang Mountain (锦江山) in Dandong's Zhenxing District (振兴区), 1.8 kilometers from the bank of the Yalu River, and covers 151 hectares divided into eight zones. Shuguang Pavilion (曙光阁), completed in 2008 on a peak 300 meters west of Jinjiang Pavilion, is a seven-story building 41 meters tall, while the two-story Huigui Pavilion (回归阁), built to mark Hong Kong's 1997 return to China, has its eight faces painted with views of Hong Kong. The park's Culture Garden (文化园) covers more than 10,000 square meters and is divided into six themed areas, including a calligraphy-stele forest and a wall recording Dandong's cultural history.
