About Tomb of King Sulu
It commemorates the eastern Sulu ruler who died here in 1417 while returning from a diplomatic visit to China.
Members of his family remained to guard the tomb and were buried nearby. The cemetery provides a specific link between Dezhou and the maritime world of Southeast Asia.
The tomb belongs to Badu Ge Ba Haha (巴都葛·叭哈喇), the East King of Sulu, who died of illness in 1417, in the fifteenth year of the Yongle era, at a post house (驿馆) in Dezhou while returning home. His eldest son, Duma She (都马舍), returned home to succeed him as king, while his consort Ge Muning (葛木宁) and his second and third sons, Wen Hala (温哈喇) and An Dulu (安都鲁), remained in China to guard the tomb; when they died, they too were buried east of the King's tomb. The tomb was designated a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level (全国重点文物保护单位) by the State Council on 13 January 1988.
