Fuguo Temple occupies the hillside west of Baisha associated with the historic Jietuolin complex and the visits of traveller Xu Xiake.

A temple front seen up a broad flight of grey stone steps with carved balustrades: a single-storey hall on a raised platform with a grey tiled roof, dark blue painted eaves and bracket sets, a central plaque lettered 福国寺 above red doors flanked by yellow panels, two white stone lions with yellow ribbons on the steps, two red lanterns under the eaves, red walls with grey capping to either side, a large conifer at the left and a display board on a pole at the far left.

About Fuguo Temple

The present temple includes reconstructed religious buildings, including a recreated Wufeng pavilion. The original Wufeng building was moved to Black Dragon Pool, so the two sites should be understood together rather than confused. Visit the Baisha temple for its hillside setting and restored complex, then make a separate visit to Black Dragon Pool for the relocated historic structure.

What to look for

  • The rebuilt Jietuolin and Wufeng structures show the restored hillside temple complex.
  • The hillside above Baisha gives the temple a different setting from the original pavilion’s current waterside location.

Location & getting there

Getting to Fuguo Temple

Reach Fuguo Temple from Baisha by the Wenhai Road approach on the western hillside. Specify the Baisha Fuguo Temple site when arranging road transport; the original Wufeng Pavilion is at Black Dragon Pool in the city.

General visit reminders

Choose the building, exhibition or part of the historic area you most want to see, then leave time to explore its setting. Check the venue’s current opening and reservation arrangements directly; a place appearing on the map does not mean every building or gallery is accessible on your travel date.

Combine your visit

Suggested order for the visit:

  1. Baisha Fuguo Temple

See the restored religious complex on its historic hillside.

  2. Black Dragon Pool’s Wufeng Pavilion

Make a separate transfer to see the relocated original building.
