About Yabuli Ski Resort

Yabuli Ski Resort (亚布力滑雪旅游度假区) is a ski and winter-sports resort south of Shangzhi (尚志), Harbin (哈尔滨), Heilongjiang. It lies beneath Daguokui Mountain (大锅盔山), on the west side of the Zhangguangcai Range (张广才岭), which belongs to the Changbai Mountains (长白山) system.

The city of Harbin is 193 km to the west and Mudanjiang (牡丹江) 106 km to the east. The terrain climbs from about 397 m at the base to 1,374.8 m, and the resort together with its ski training centre spreads over roughly 255 ha. Winter temperatures fall as low as -44 °C, and snow lies for 170 days, reaching a metre in depth. National Highway 301 and the Binsui Railway (滨绥铁路) both cut through the resort. Its name comes from the Russian word for an apple orchard, yablonya.

The land is provincial state forest land of the Yabuli Forestry Bureau (亚布力林业局), which was set up in 1958. The resort staged the skiing events of the third Asian Winter Games, held in 1996, and a provincial administration bureau took charge of it in 1997. The China International Ski Festival has been held here every year since 1998, and the resort is the permanent venue of the China Entrepreneurs Forum's annual meeting. In February 2009 it hosted the Alpine, Nordic and freestyle skiing events of the Winter Universiade, a games that drew student athletes from 44 countries. At the ninth Asian Winter Games in 2025, Yabuli was one of two competition zones, alongside Harbin.

Chinese Wikipedia describes the resort as the largest in China and its Yabuli ski field as the country's largest natural ski field, and credits it with Asia's longest alpine slide (高山滑道). The Yabuli Sports Training Base, named China's national winter sports training hub in 2016, has certified Alpine courses with up to 812 m of vertical drop, a 90 m ski jump and a 12.5 km biathlon track.
