About Suichang Gold Mine National Mining Park
The mine preserves workings associated with Tang extraction and later Song-Ming mining. Declining reserves prompted a new role for this long-used mineral landscape: Suichang entered the first national mine-park programme in 2005 and opened the park in 2007. The Gold Museum became one of the facilities built to interpret the site's industrial heritage.
The transformation also involved restoring former waste heaps, treating water and protecting surrounding forest. This environmental work is part of the park's story, alongside the old mine remains and the processes by which valuable metals were extracted from the hills.
