About Dongshan Tongling Ancient Town and Wind-Moving Rock
The fortified town began in the Ming coastal-defence programme of 1387. Ding Street, the old upper street, carries the settlement's domestic and scholarly history through stone paving, traditional houses and temples. Its Lunzhang Chuiyao archway honours Tang Wencan, remembered for his contribution to local education.
Near Guandi Temple, Fengdongshi is a large boulder poised on its base and associated with rocking in the wind. The temple supplies a different kind of detail: cut porcelain dragons and figures crowd its roof ornament, complemented by gilded wood carving. Together, the town and coastal monuments show how defence, seafaring and local devotion shaped Tongling.
