About Wulian Mountain and Jiuxian Mountain

The Shandong provincial land and resources department approved the pair in 2012 as part of the eighth batch of provincial geoparks. The designation is built around granite geological landforms, with exposed geological sections and structural features also included, which is why the shape of the rock rather than any single building is the reason the area is protected. On the Wulianshan side the authorities count 28 peaks, among them Wulian Peak and Tianzhu Peak; the Jiuxianshan side is described in terms of sharp summits and water.

Wulianshan is separately designated a scenic and historic area under the national and Shandong provincial scenic-area regulations. A master plan for the period 2024 to 2035 was put out for public comment in 2025, and the area is administered by the management service centre of the Wulianshan provincial-level tourist resort.
