About Mingfu Temple Pagoda
Mingfu Temple Pagoda (明福寺塔) is a seven-storey brick pagoda in Jiujie Village (九街村), Hua County (滑县), Henan (河南). Its hollow interior and outer walls both follow an octagonal plan.
The tower has three main parts: its base, its body and its crowning finial. Blue-grey bricks enclose the base. More than seventy types of grey brick, together with bricks bearing sculpted figures, make up the tower body and finial. The figurative brickwork is one of its distinctive architectural features.
Each successive tier steps inward, giving the outside of the pagoda a gently curved profile. The internal structure also has seven levels, matching the storeys marked by the exterior eaves, around the hollow octagonal core. The State Council designated the pagoda a nationally protected cultural site in June 2001.
