About Guanmenshan Scenic Area

The forestry district presents Guanmenshan as an area for research, field study and public science education rather than for scenery alone. Its gorge, crossed by underground watercourses, concentrates more than 2,500 plant species ranging from subtropical to cold-temperate, and a rare-plant conservation park of sixteen specialised garden zones has been laid out within it. Alongside the conservation garden are a medicinal-plant garden, a sika deer enclosure and a bee garden, and hundreds of beehives are hung on the cliff faces, which draws black bears down from the forest.

The built facilities include a natural history museum and a wildlife rescue centre, along with a 'yeren cave', an underground river, a rock-climbing base and the Zhaojun waterside area. A natural history exhibition hall combines geology, biology, field research, folk custom and temporary exhibitions, and a 4D cinema presents the geological change of Shennongjia over 1.9 billion years. Guanmenshan is one of the six Shennongjia scenic areas ticketed together with Shennongding, Shennongtan, Tianshengqiao, Tianyan and Dajiuhu.
