About Huangmanzhai Waterfalls

The scenic area covers more than 5,000 mu and is also designated a Guangdong provincial leisure-tourism demonstration unit. The county government describes the waterfall group as set in a deep mountain gorge, the hills on either side green with trees, old vines and bamboo. The falls descend in five named tiers with a combined drop of more than 300 metres. Feihong, the uppermost, is 82 metres wide with a 56-metre drop and is named for a rainbow sometimes visible in its spray in strong morning sun. Yinhekong, the second tier, is recorded as the scenic area's point of highest negative-ion concentration. Luojiutian, the third, drops more than 120 metres, which the Jieyang municipal portal gives as the greatest in the group. Sandiegu, the fourth, is formed of three linked cascades each 6 to 8 metres high. Doufangkong, the lowest, empties into a pool called Guancai Tan, its spray likened to scattered pearls.

The scenic area includes the Huangmanzhai folk village, with farm-culture, farm-holiday, tea-garden, farm-restaurant and water-activity zones presented as a half-mountain Hakka folk-custom display, and the Guangdong Jiexi Huangmanzhai Geopark Museum, which introduces the geopark's natural scenery, human history, agricultural ecology, folk customs and geological features in four sections using video projection and sand-table models. Cukeng village itself, one of eight natural villages within the scenic area, has been given provincial titles including a natural-ecology model rural tourism site, a Guangdong noted village and a Guangdong historic village.
