About Li River Scenic Stretch
The scenic area's own management committee describes the Li River as rising at Mao'er Shan, 2,141.5 metres, on the boundary of Xing'an and Ziyuan counties, and names it as the upper reach of the Gui River in the Pearl River system and one of 13 rivers the state designated for key protection in November 1996. The river runs 214 kilometres in total, of which 100 kilometres pass through the scenic area, with a basin of 12,159 square kilometres across 12 counties, cities and districts of Guilin. The committee names the 'essence' route itself as running from the Mopanshan and Zhujiang docks to the Longtoushan and Shuidongmen docks at Yangshuo town, a distance of 60 kilometres, the whole of it inside the scenic area's core zone and the Guilin Karst World Natural Heritage property.
In 2026 the scenic area administration carried a Guilin Daily item reporting that the Ministry of Transport had, on 27 August, published its 2025 selection of exemplary domestic waterway tourism passenger routes, naming the Lijiang jinghuaduan route as the only one chosen in Guangxi; the item linked the route to named landmarks including Jiuma Huashan and Huangbu Daoying, and recorded that it is locally known as the 'hundred-li gallery' (百里画廊).
What to look for
- Jiuma Huashan (九马画山), one of the route's named landmark cliffs.
- Huangbu Daoying (黄布倒影), the reflection scene named alongside it.
- The stretch of river between the Mopanshan and Zhujiang docks and the Longtoushan and Shuidongmen docks at Yangshuo, the defined 60-kilometre course of the route.
