No institutional source located for this record describes an old town or historic quarter in Dongxing, and this record is written about the border-crossing area alone. The city government's own feature records the port opening in 1958, closing for a period from 1979, and reopening to the outside on 17 April 1994; it records close to ten million entry and exit movements through the port in 2017. At the entrance to the gate, the feature records, the four characters '东兴口岸' were written by the calligrapher Qi Gong, and at the exit the national emblem of the People's Republic of China hangs above the characters '中华人民共和国.' The joint inspection building, it records, has separate exit and entry halls on the left and right with an open vehicle lane between them, the current building having been extended and brought back into use in 2007.
