About Longtan National Forest Park

The park covers 107,000 mu on a spur of the Dayaoshan range, ground the park describes as the third highest in Guiping and as mid-mountain terrain with Danxia landforms. It counts 138 peaks above 800 metres, the highest of them Dapingshan at 1,158 metres, and puts its forest cover at 93.3 per cent. Its vegetation is south-subtropical monsoon evergreen broadleaf forest. Dateng Gorge, a gorge on the Qianjiang running fifteen kilometres from Bitan to Nutan, lies along the park's outer edge.

The park's own record of its biota lists 1,093 plant species in 533 genera and 166 families. Among them the golden camellia and yuanzihe are protected at the first national grade, and more than thirty species at the second grade, including tree ferns, zijingmu, guojianglong and the five-needle pine. On the animal side it lists 112 species in 56 families, with the Yaoshan crocodile lizard protected at the first grade and more than ten second-grade species among them the rhesus macaque, the pangolin and the Chinese giant salamander.
