About Quyang Lake
Quyang Lake (渠洋湖) is a reservoir lake in Quyang town (渠洋镇), 28 km from the urban area of Jingxi (靖西), a county-level city under Baise (百色) in western Guangxi. It is a national AAA-rated scenic area.
Jingxi lies on Guangxi's south-western border with Vietnam; its land falls in rough steps from north-west to south-east, and it has a subtropical monsoon limestone-plateau climate. The Jingxi culture and tourism bureau describes Quyang Lake as a typical karst plateau lake: the reservoir covers a total of 2,469.9 hectares, holds up to 92 million cubic metres, and its water surface stretches about 15 km in length and 1 km at its widest. The bureau lists it as the second-largest artificial lake in Baise.
Seen from above, the lake takes the shape of two large gourds joined end to end, symmetrical from north to south, and the bureau calls it a favourite spot for aerial photography. Peaks crowd around the water like a forest, islands are scattered over the water, and green bamboo and Zhuang (壮族) villages sit between them. The colour of the water shifts with the weather. The lake is known as "Guilin on the water" (水上桂林) and is used for water recreation, sightseeing and holidays.
