About Summit of the Three Gorges
The name comes from Du Fu's line 赤甲白盐俱刺天，闾阎缭绕接山巅. In 724 the 24-year-old Li Bai climbed here too and left the poem 自巴东舟行经瞿塘峡登巫山最高峰晚还题壁; the county government names the scenic spots Youyou Bridge, Riban Pavilion, Xiawai Pavilion, Jimu Platform and Cishan Corridor as all taking their names from that poem. The operator describes the scenic area's ground running north from Zuofangcao, south towards Baiyan Mountain, west towards the Baidi poetry city and east to Wushan airport, over more than ten kilometres, and dates the AAAA rating to October 2020.
The operator also connects the site to the legendary figure Kui, presented as China's first musician and the forebear of ceremonial (yayue) music, and places the site among the origins of ancient Kui music more than 4,000 years ago; on that theme it has built, among others, the Kuigu Shentan altar, the Siwang Yuetan platform, a statue of the music ancestor, a Kui-character gate, the Zhulv Yalan and a reception platform, and laid a glass-floored skywalk across part of the site. A 2020 People's Daily report on the AAAA approval lists Tianyin Shendao, Danqing Cliff, Qingyun stairway and Caiyun Platform among seventeen named scenic points along the ten-kilometre site, and quotes a Fengjie county official saying that visitors could see a fossil elephant of the Kuimen area estimated at two million years old, and could visit Kuiguan pass and the gun-emplacement ruins on Chijia tower.
