Wulingshan Guojia Senlin Gongyuan

Wuling Mountain National Forest Park covers karst uplands at Damu, some 55 kilometres southeast of the district town of Fuling in Chongqing, on the northern section of the Wuling range. Its core area of 16.33 square kilometres is high, cold and heavily wooded.

About Wulingshan National Forest Park

The ground is typical karst: solution caves are numerous and streams run thickly between ridge after ridge of forest. Elevation ranges from 1,015 to 1,985 metres, the annual mean temperature is about 9.9 degrees Celsius and the summer mean 19.7, and winter snow has reached depths of more than 50 centimetres. Forest cover stands at 95 per cent, and the municipal government records over 10,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimetre in the air here. Nationally protected wild plants recorded in the park include southern yew, Chinese tulip tree and ginkgo, while the nationally protected animals listed include the large Indian civet, golden pheasant, rhesus macaque and tufted deer.

The park is a listed national AAAA-grade scenic area and sits among a cluster of neighbouring attractions, with Damu Flower Valley immediately east and the Wuling Mountain Grand Rift Valley scenic area to the west. Inside, an expanse of grassland has been laid out for camping, and more than twenty kilometres of forest fitness trail run through the woods; a grove of five hundred arhat figures and the Wuling Chan Temple stand within the park boundary.
