Huaying Mountain 华蓥山

Huaying Shan

Huaying Shan is a karst mountain and national AAAA tourist area in Huaying City, Guang'an, in eastern Sichuan, known both for its stone-forest and solution-pillar landforms and as the site of the 1948 underground Communist uprising whose dead the municipal chronicles office associates with the region's Red Rock spirit.

About Huaying Mountain

Guang'an's tourism bureau lists the Huaying Shan tourism area as a national AAAA tourist area, a national geopark, a national forest park, a national classic red-tourism site, a national patriotic-education base, a Sichuan provincial tourist resort and one of Sichuan's ten summer-resort destinations. Within the tourism area, Huaying's own tourism bureau records a graded geoheritage feature at Gaoding village, Hongyan township, called Qiannian Yiwen, 'thousand-year kiss': two solution pillars developed from the same base, about 15 metres high and about 3 metres in diameter; the same page's geology note describes the karst landform there as formed by limestone protruding at the surface.

The mountain is also where the Communist underground launched the Huaying Shan uprising in August and September 1948. According to the Guang'an municipal local chronicles office, fighting broke out at Daishi and Guange in Guang'an county, at Sanxi, Zhenjing and Shipan in Wusheng county, at Fulong in Yuechi county, at Jinzi in Hechuan county and at Longtan in Qu county. More than 400 cadres and revolutionaries died in the uprising, among them Wang Pu, Yang Xiqin and Yang Yushu, and others were imprisoned and killed at the Zhazidong and Baigongguan camps in Chongqing; the chronicles office links the uprising's dead to the region's Red Rock spirit.
