About Longcanggou Forest Park
The State Forestry Administration approved Longcanggou's upgrading from a provincial forest park to a national forest park in December 2000. The county chronicles office describes the scenic area as old-growth forest of layered ridges, dense trees, drifting cloud and criss-crossing ravines, with waterfalls, clear green pools, a natural bridge and rhododendrons. It singles out the dove-tree woods, calling the tree a living plant fossil and the stands extensive and unbroken. Giant panda, red panda, leopard, takin and pheasants are listed among the rare wild animals that occur in the park.
Yingjing County is the southern entrance to Giant Panda National Park; 836 square kilometres of the county, 47 per cent of its area, were placed inside that park, and 28 wild giant pandas are known to live there. Longcanggou township was itself placed in the national park's south-entrance community. China Green Times records 19 nationally key protected wild plant species and 81 nationally key protected wild animal species within the county.
