About Shimen Mountain
The north peak is made up of the Xinglong, Qilin and Doumu peaks and the south peak of the Huangtian and Yuling peaks, and it is the two facing ridges that form the stone gate the mountain is named for. The district culture and tourism bureau's entry records Yinyue Lake and Wuyang Temple on the front hill and Muma Flats on the back hill. On the mountain stands a group of Ming-dynasty buildings — among them the Laojun Hall, Zhao Gong Temple, Zushi Hall, Shengmu Palace, Wangmu Hall, Sanxian Nunnery and Taohua Nunnery — with halls and terraces set among cloud and water. The same page describes dense vegetation, striking peaks and cloud seas, records a long-standing byname of 'little Huangshan', and says the site is especially known for its 'Shimen moon at night' view.
