About Bopiliao Historic Block
Bopiliao is a preserved historic street in Taipei’s Wanhua district, close to Longshan Temple. Its brick arcades, narrow shopfronts and patterned windows reveal the commercial architecture of old Bangka, the earlier name for this part of the city.
The surviving buildings combine places of work and domestic life: shops occupied the street frontage, with living space behind. Looking along the arcades makes that relationship easier to understand than treating each facade as a separate monument.
The Heritage and Culture Education Center interprets local development through displays and educational activities. Bopiliao therefore offers both an outdoor architectural walk and an introduction to the everyday history of the surrounding district.
What to look for
- Brick arcades form a continuous sheltered edge along the historic street.
- Window details and shopfront proportions show how small commercial buildings were organized.
- The education center adds context to the preserved streetscape through its current displays.
