About Songshan Cultural and Creative Park
Songshan Cultural and Creative Park occupies a former tobacco factory in Taipei’s Xinyi district. Completed in 1937, the industrial complex ceased cigarette production in 1998 and was subsequently protected and adapted for cultural use.
Warehouses, an office building, production spaces and a boiler room help explain the site’s earlier organization. Their relatively restrained industrial architecture is complemented by a formal garden and other landscaped areas, so the grounds reward a walk even before entering an exhibition.
The present park supports design, creative businesses and cultural events. Exhibitions change, while the reused buildings provide a consistent thread through the visit. The neighbouring commercial developments and the historic factory grounds are related parts of the area, but they are not the same attraction.
