About Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology
Shihsanhang Museum in Bali grew out of efforts to rescue and interpret an archaeological site threatened by modern construction. Its story connects excavation, public advocacy and the preservation of evidence about people who lived beside the Tamsui estuary long before the present city.
The museum's archaeological interpretation brings together pottery, tools, metalworking and exchange. Objects are valuable here because of what their materials, manufacture and excavation context reveal about everyday life, rather than simply because they are old or decorative.
Approach the displays as a sequence of questions: how was a find recovered, what was it used for, and what can it tell us about contact with other communities? The museum building and the surrounding riverside setting provide a second perspective on the relationship between archaeology and today's landscape.
