About Pingxi and Shifen Old Streets
Pingxi and Shifen are separate settlements on the Pingxi railway line, each with an old street shaped by the relationship between homes, shops and rail transport. A visit to one station does not cover both, even though they are often promoted together.
At Pingxi, streets follow the hillside below the station, and trains pass above parts of the old town. Traditional shops and diners sit among the residences. Looking at the changes in level helps explain how the settlement fits into its narrow valley.
At Shifen, the railway runs directly beside the shopfronts, creating the familiar close view of trains passing the old street. Sky-lantern businesses are part of the present visitor scene, but the tracks remain operational railway infrastructure. Keep photographs and shopping within the marked public areas.

- Pingxi's hillside streets and elevated railway views.
- Shifen's unusually close relationship between shops and tracks.
- Two distinct station communities along the same branch line.

Use the current railway timetable to connect the two stops. Follow staff and crossing signs at Shifen, and check local rules before taking part in any lantern activity.
