About Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area
Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area lies in the mountain country of Zhushan, Nantou County, beyond the Xitou approach. At roughly 1,600 to 1,800 metres, it occupies a moist forest belt where planted conifers, remaining mixed forest, streams and garden areas shape the visitor landscape.
The area has a working-forest history. Logging preceded its development as a recreation destination, and later rebuilding following earthquake and storm damage helped shift the emphasis towards ecology and environmental education. The forest visible today is not all untouched ancient growth: the environmental-education record identifies substantial replanted Japanese cedar alongside other vegetation.
Qinglong Waterfall, Songlong Rock and its waterfall, the flower centre and the rock formations known as Tiandi Yan are distinct named features. They are connected through the park's managed route system rather than freely accessible forest in every direction. A useful visit compares the stream corridor, planted forest and exposed rock, noticing how water and earlier land use have shaped each. Flower displays and waterfall volume vary, so allow the wider landscape to carry the outing rather than relying on one seasonal photograph.
