About Donglong Temple and Donggang Town
Donglong Temple is a major religious centre in Donggang, Pingtung County, dedicated to Wen Wangye. Its importance lies in the relationship between temple worship and the town's maritime community, where the deity's protection forms part of local identity.
The Donggang Welcoming of the Kings festival is especially closely associated with the temple. Held on a three-year cycle, it involves elaborate ritual preparation, processions and the construction of a ceremonial king boat.
