About Longpan Park

Longpan Park is an open coastal grassland on the eastern side of the Hengchun Peninsula, between Eluanbi and Fengchuisha. The ground rises above the Pacific on a limestone platform, giving wide views of the coast and an immediate sense of exposure to weather.

The terrain is shaped by the way limestone dissolves and breaks down. Cliffs, sinkholes, caves and red soils occur within the wider landscape, so the grassy surface should not be assumed to conceal level or solid ground everywhere. From the designated viewpoint, the relationship between the plateau and the steep shoreline is the main geological feature to read.

The open setting is associated with dawn light and dark-sky views when conditions allow, but the landscape remains interesting in ordinary daylight. Notice the curve of the coast, the height of the cliff edge and the low vegetation adapted to the exposed site. Use marked paths and stand well back from edges; good visibility and a broad horizon can make distances seem easier to judge than they really are.

• The raised limestone platform above the Pacific.
• Open grassland meeting a steep, irregular cliff coast.
• Views showing erosion, coastal curvature and the exposed setting.

Locate 龍磐公園 on the peninsula's eastern coastal road. Follow the marked visitor path and current weather notices, and stay away from cliff edges and unmarked depressions.
