About Shitiping Coastal Terraces
Shitiping (石梯坪) is a rocky coastal landscape in Fengbin Township, where pale volcanic rock forms broad, step-like surfaces beside the Pacific. The county's description identifies tuff and volcanic breccia shaped by marine erosion. The name's stone steps are a useful clue to the landform: uneven rock terraces project towards the sea rather than forming a conventional sandy beach.
The attraction lies in the detail as well as the panorama. Eroded surfaces and pools reveal how waves have worked the rock, while the intertidal zone supports crabs, hermit crabs, sea stars and fish. Observing from permitted paths allows the smaller coastal habitats to become part of the visit.
Above the shore, the recreation area's camping setting looks out towards the ocean. Sunrise and changing light can emphasise the contrast between white rock and blue water. This remains an exposed coast, so a calm-looking pool is not evidence that the surrounding rock platform is safe to enter; respect the authorised viewing areas and sea conditions.
