The former river-port setting is still legible in the relationship between the upper lanes and the waterfront, although the main routes now serve a busy visitor trade. A hilltop temple provides a quieter architectural counterpoint to the shops. Follow one commercial lane down towards the river, then compare it with an uphill side street while respecting residential doorways.

Getting to Ciqikou
Arrive at Ciqikou station on Metro Line 1 and follow the signs to the old-town streets. The riverside is downhill from the main visitor area, so allow for the return ascent.
