Lamp-Wick Rice Cake Sticks (灯芯糕) are a sweet pastry that Chinese Wikipedia lists as a speciality of two places: Xiangtan (湘潭) in Hunan and Guixi (贵溪) in Jiangxi.
Ingredients and name
The main ingredients are glutinous rice, white sugar, lard and cinnamon. The cake comes as soft strips, and the Chinese name, literally "lamp-wick cake", refers to two things: the strips look like the wick of an oil lamp, and they catch fire easily when held to a flame.
Flavour and texture
The strips are white with a moist sheen and taste sweet and fragrant as soon as they are in the mouth.
Where it comes from
In Jiangxi it was listed in 1982 as one of the province's four famous speciality pastries ("江西省四大名特糕点"), and it is still a known product at the Longhu Mountain (龙虎山) scenic area, which Chinese Wikipedia calls China's capital of Taoism.
