Linli Huanghua Fish (临澧黄花鱼) is a fish from Linli County (临澧县) in Changde (常德), Hunan, protected as a national geographical-indication product since 2013.

Flavour and texture

Rednet's Changde edition (红网常德站) says the fish is known across China for its good looks, fine and tender flesh and fresh, savoury flavour.

Where it comes from

Rednet traces the history of Linli Huanghua Fish back more than two thousand years and calls it a golden calling card for Linli County. The name received national geographical-indication product protection in 2013. To regulate and protect use of the name, the Linli County government applied to the China National Intellectual Property Administration for a geographical-indication certification trademark in March 2018, and "临澧黄花鱼" was approved as one on 14 February 2020. It was one of three such trademarks Changde gained that year, with Changde fragrant rice and Changde rice noodles.

The Changde municipal government portal reports that Linli brought the fish, under the Huayang (华洋) brand and labelled a geographical-indication product, to the 2023 China International E-Commerce Expo among the county's farm specialities.
