Lusi Seafood (吕四海鲜) refers to the seafood dishes of Lusi (吕四), the fishing-port area of Qidong (启东). Local catches include yellow croaker, pomfret, hairtail and sea shrimp, with shellfish and crabs also associated with the surrounding tidal flats.
Several preparations at one meal
A diner interviewed by China News Service in 2013 described a meal of red-braised jianjiaozi fish (尖角子鱼), steamed fangban fish (方板鱼), mud snails, shredded jellyfish, drunken hongwangzi shrimp (红网子虾), and laver-and-egg soup. The selection spans braising, steaming and liquor-marinated seafood rather than a single signature recipe.
The fishing season and the table
Qidong tourism official Chen Juan (陈娟) told China News Service in 2013 that spring and summer were a period of abundant seafood at the port. She linked seafood meals with visitors’ coastal outings, including clam gathering and seafood barbecues at Huangjin Beach (黄金海滩), followed by eating in Lusi.
